Oakvale URC Community

Our classes meet at Oakvale URC and we are always greeted
very warmly by all the members of the church community. This year sees them
celebrating their Centenary year and they invited our class to join in their
activities.
During July all the hall users were invited to contribute to the Flower
Festival. We are very fortunate to have Adrienne Preston, an accomplished flower
arranger, as a member of our branch, so she was asked to do the floral tribute
to represent Scottish dancing. The theme was to be a hymn! (Scottish Country
Dancing is not known for its hymn singing so thinking caps on.)
The most appropriate one to come up was... "Lord of the Dance", very apt don’t
you think? So, on the allotted day, Adrienne set to and provided a beautiful
arrangement. Yellow and peach flowers arranged to represent the sun rising &
setting across the world, (someone somewhere is always dancing,) and silver
ballet shoes filled with tiny flowers, set out on a green cloth with a sash
draped across the table. Magnificent!

It was a privilege to
show Scottish dancing to the visitors and we are grateful to Oakvale URC for
inviting us to participate.
Coming up soon
In
September 2013 some of the class members will be joining the organisers when we
go to the "Holiday at Home" event, again at Oakvale, we hope to encourage one
and all to join in a few simple dances. Then, on St Andrew’s night, we will be
back once again hoping to get the younger church members to get up and dance.
Promises to be a busy start to the new dancing season!
